Amala and Kamala: The Wolf Children of India | Feral Children Explained

Previously, I explored the stories of two feral children—Genie and Victor. Today, we continue this series by examining the case of Amala and Kamala, often referred to as the “wolf-children” of India.

Stories of children raised by animals are often associated with fiction, such as Tarzan. However, as we’ve seen throughout this series, real-life cases challenge our understanding of childhood development and human socialization.

In October 1920, Reverend J.A.L. Singh was on a mission in Midnapore, India, when villagers reported seeing a ghost near a wolf den. Upon investigation, Singh and his team claimed to have discovered two young girls living among a pack of wolves—Amala, approximately 18 months old, and Kamala, around 8 years old. According to Singh’s account, the wolf mother fiercely protected the girls and died during the rescue.

After being brought into human care, the girls reportedly struggled to adapt to society. They had difficulty with basic human behaviors such as walking upright, eating cooked food, social interaction, and speech. Their development appeared severely delayed, highlighting the impact of early neglect and deprivation.

However, this story is highly controversial. Many historians and psychologists argue that Reverend Singh fabricated or exaggerated large parts of the narrative. While the girls did exist, evidence suggests they may have had neurodevelopmental disorders, and the idea that wolves raised them for years is biologically unlikely. Additional claims—such as the girls being unable to sweat or emitting blue light from their eyes—have further fueled skepticism.

Whether the wolf-raising story is fact or myth, one truth remains undeniable: early childhood neglect and deprivation can cause profound and lasting damage. During the formative years, the brain develops rapidly, and without consistent care, stimulation, and human interaction, children can suffer irreversible developmental consequences.

My Etsy Shop stats

The main focus of my digital marketing is to drive more traffic and sales to my shop. Here is a look at some of the stats in my shop currently. Hopefully, they improve towards the end of the year, but I am proud of what I have achieved in the course of only a month.

My Etsy Shop visits, orders, conversion rate, and revenue.
My Etsy Shop visits, orders, conversion rate, and revenue.

The first image is from the Shop Traffic tab in Etsy Shop Manager, which counts visits, meaning individual people who check out my shop or listings. That peak is from 1 Jan with 190 visits. I do turn ads on and off, so that was during ads time. I started the shop on 2 Dec 2025, but the data starts from 3 Dec 2025. The visits range from 0 to 31. I have made revenue of SGD $8.50 so far with 3 orders from 3 different people, and that got me 4 sales. The conversion rate is how many people who visited actually bought something.

Moving on to my Shopper Stats. Pretty self-explanatory, I started to get some favourites, and that led me to more sales. Sales and reviews go hand-in-hand.

Here is the data on how my shop was found. I brought most of my traffic through my various social media platforms, the highest being Facebook, followed by Instagram (My personal).

Now moving on to ads. As I said, I turn it on and off periodically, so the 2 flat lines are from the days I decided not to. That long flat line at the start is when I wasn't allowed to create ads because my shop was still brand new. I have had my highest traffic on 8 Jan 2026.

Now moving on to my first actively used tool, eRank! It is useful to find keywords to know what people are searching for on Etsy. I am ranked 4057 in Singapore and in the millions globally. LOL.

Now this is my Traffic Stats. Most of the users come from Facebook, followed by Instagram, then Direct. Direct means people who go to my link. The Top Keywords recently appeared, and I think it means what people are searching for that led to my listings. I will look at them soon.

My Top Devices and Top cities for my Etsy Shop.

No surprise, most visitors are Singaporeans on mobile.

My Top Countries and Demographics.

Over here, it says United States because the folks from the US are not all from the same city, so I can conclude my main audience comes from the US and Singapore. No demographic data, this would be extremely useful to know.

My Shop Analyzer on RankHero.
My Shop Analyzer on RankHero.

The last data is from this website called RankHero. I am using the free Shop Analyzer, and it said I am better than 35% of sellers. Even just making 1 sale makes me 20% better. Wow, there are so many shops that have no sales. I have made 4 sales so far, so I am not in such a good position either, but I am still thankful nonetheless.

So to conclude, I'm just getting started. I should continue using ads and Facebook to get more views, leading to more favourites, reviews, and sales. I need to make sure my listings look good on mobile and cater for both US and SG audiences.

My Pinterest stats

I shall attempt to share my socials stats in this blog, starting with Pinterest! The motivation behind using it is to promote my Etsy Shop, and it has been fun using it. I am familiar with Pinterest, but it is in recent months that I have come to use it more often and diligently. My demographics are Asian women between 25 to 34 who use both mobile and computer devices.

These are my current Audience Insights:

So, analysing these 2 charts, I can tell my pins attract women between the ages of 25 to 34, not surprising since my niche is for preschool teachers and parents. Somewhere along the lines, I started to create more girly and kiddy art for my products.

Victor the Wild Child | The Birth of Special Education

When a child is born, care and protection should never be optional. While this is a non-negotiable in modern society, history tells a very different story.

In this episode of my mini documentary series, we explore the true story of Victor of Aveyron, also known as the wild child. Born in France around 1788, Victor was abandoned by his parents and survived alone in the forest for years before being discovered at the age of twelve.

Victor was later taken in by Jean-Marc-Gaspard Itard, a physician and educator who believed—against common assumptions of the time—that children with special needs were capable of learning. Itard developed a specialised curriculum tailored to Victor’s abilities, making this one of the earliest recorded cases of special education.

This video explores:
Victor’s early life and discovery
The beginnings of special education
Critical periods in language development
Why a one-size-fits-all approach does not work for children

Despite Itard’s efforts, Victor was unable to acquire full language skills, having missed the critical developmental window. His story reminds us that when supporting children—especially those with special needs—we must meet them where they are, rather than forcing comparisons or unrealistic expectations.

Every child develops differently. A child who struggles with show-and-tell is no less worthy than one who speaks confidently in front of others.

The Story of Genie Wiley | A Child Deprived of Language

Welcome to my mini documentary series, where I explore moments in history that remind us why children’s rights matter.

In this episode, we begin with the heartbreaking true story of Genie Wiley, a girl born in 1957 whose childhood was defined by extreme abuse, neglect, and isolation. In 1970, Genie was discovered in a Los Angeles County welfare office after years of being confined inside her home with almost no human interaction. Initially believed to have autism, further investigations revealed that she had never properly learned to speak due to the severe conditions she endured.

This video explores:
Genie Wiley’s life and discovery
The effects of extreme social isolation on children
Scientific interest in language development
The ethical questions raised by her case

Genie’s story forces us to confront uncomfortable truths. As important as human rights are, children’s rights should never be overlooked. This documentary is not meant to shock for entertainment, but to educate, reflect, and encourage empathy—especially toward vulnerable groups in society.

💭 Discussion Question:
Do the rights of parents matter more, or should the rights of the child always come first?

⚠️ Content Warning:
This video discusses child abuse, neglect, and social isolation. Viewer discretion is advised.
